Husband and wife team Atul and Tarspal ‘Pinky’ Pathak have been announced as part of 2019’s Asian Power Couples Hot 100 and in the Top 5 for Business. The news celebrates the contribution British Asians have made to the nation in a time of cultural, economic and political change.
With the support of his wife, Atul Pathak OBE built up his hugely successful McDonald’s franchise business, Appt Corporation, from scratch. He opened his first McDonald’s restaurant in 2003 and now Appt Corp has expanded to over 37 outlets across London and Berkshire with a workforce of over 3,000 diverse employees. He is currently the UK’s largest McDonald’s franchisee and the second largest in Europe.
The Top 5 in Business category highlights significant achievement in the field of commerce, including revenue generation, job creation, entrepreneurial endeavor and the development of skills.
Atul is proud to place a well-known emphasis on training and development for his staff with a focus on promoting from within by identifying and investing in talent. Because of this ethos, Atul opened his own state-of-the-art training and development centre for staff. The facility enables employees to acquire workplace skills and recognised qualifications equivalent to GCSEs and A Levels. He also supports a range of initiatives designed to give young people a practical understanding of the world of work. His endeavours in the field of entrepreneurship led him to be appointed an OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2015.
